DMX is "devastated" over the loss of his dogs in Friday's raid of his Cave Creek-area home, his lawyer said Monday.

"He's devastated," said Murray Richman, the rapper-turned-actor's New York attorney, providing the first reaction since Maricopa County sheriff's deputies raided the home and discovered three dead dogs, 12 others malnourished, guns, cars with non-matching license plates, drug paraphernalia and a substance sheriff's deputies suspect is some kind of drug.

"My client is totally innocent of all the charges here," Richman said. "Well, there are no charges."

Meanwhile, Sheriff Joe Arpaio said Monday that investigators are working to identify the suspicious half-pound of substance found in the rapper's locked bedroom.

The substance under investigation is suspected to be an illegal narcotic, possibly methamphetamine, Arpaio said. "Hopefully by tonight we'll have a result."

Richman said he still has not spoken to Sheriff Joe Arpaio about the raid, despite attempts to contact him.

"We've been calling the Sheriff's office to no avail," Richman said.

The lawyer and sheriff continue to disagree about when DMX last visited his Arizona home, a rural property west of Cave Creek, about 2 miles north of Carefree Highway.

Richman sa id DMX has not been at the home for "several months," while Arpaio said neighbors have seen the rapper within the past three weeks.

When asked about the rapper's current whereabouts, Richman told a reporter, "Why would I tell you?"
