A source at Def Jam Records has shot down reports that Nas will be releasing an album titled Nigga in December.
During a concert at New York’s Roseland Ballroom this past Friday (October 12 ), Nas announced that his ninth solo album will be titled Nigga and will be released in December.
The source , who is close to Island Def Jam Music Group chairman Antonio "L.A." Reid, told FOX News earlier today (October 16) that no album from the New York rapper has been slated for release and the label has no plans of releasing any of his projects with that title.
“There is no album release by Nas on the release schedule at this point,” the source said. “And they would be unlikely to release an album with that title. How would that look at Wal-Mart?”
Reverend Jesse Jackson and The NAACP(The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) expressed their disapproval with the rapper’s title of choice for his next opus.
“The title using the 'N' word is morally offensive and socially distasteful,” Jackson said via a statement. “Nas has the right to degrade and denigrate in t
he name of free speech, but there is no honor in it. Radio and television stations have no obligation to play it and self-respecting people have no obligation to buy it.”
“ I wish he would use his talents to lift up and inspire, not degrade, making mockery of racism,” he added.
“We will not support and we will not continually be assailed by other individuals who want to use that type of term in our presence,”stressed national NAACP spokesman Richard McIntire. “This has gone on long enough”.
Two things are for sure, Nas will be releasing his Greatest Hits collection on November 6th.
The compilation will include two new songs , “Surviving the Times” and Less Than An Hour featuring Cee-Lo of Gnarls Barkley.
He will also be appearing on Jay-Z’s upcoming album American Gangster which also drops on November 6th.
