The Los Angeles County coroner concluded today (January 10) that Dr. Donda West, mother to rapper Kanye West, died from heart disease and multiple post-operative factors from plastic surgery.
As reported earlier, Donda West, 58, died at a Los Angeles hospital in November 2007, a day after going under the knife for breast reduction, tummy tuck and liposuction.
“It is my opinion Ms. West died from some pre-existing coronary artery disease and multiple postoperative factors,” Dr. Louis A. Pena, a deputy medical examiner, stated in a lengthy autopsy report.
According to the autopsy report, there was no sign of “surgical or anesthetic misadventure”.
Dr. Jan Adams, the surgeon who operated on Donda West, came under fire for Donda's death because of his previous cases of malpractice.
Adams denied any wrong doing in relation to Donda’s death and repeatedly claimed Donda died from ‘a heart attack, pulmonary embolism, or massive vomiting’ due to surgery.
“Mrs. Donda West’s autopsy confirms exactly what we believed,” Adams said in a statement released to Access Hollywood. “Again,
we are on the side of the family and we will continue to work with the family to get them through this difficult situation.”
During his career, Kanye has always publicly celebrated his close relationship with his mother and dedicated a song to her on his sophomore album, Late Registration.
Donda served as Kanye's manager and was a former chairman of the English department at Chicago State University.
In 2007, she released a book titled Raising Kanye which detailed his childhood and her experiences as her son's manager.
