The West Coast is on its way back and Roccett is leading the pack. With his wide range of subject matter, pension for good lyrics, and being signed to Young Jeezy’s Corporate Thugs Entertainment label,  this Carson, California rapper is ready to blow.

Sixshot.com sat down with the “Mayor of Carson”, to discuss his new projects, the West Coast rap scene, and who he models his work ethic after. Check it out.

What’s good man? Working hard?

You know man, it’s going good. I’m in the studio grindin’ out these songs.

So I know you’ve been on it for a minute. How long were you rapping before the deals were put on the table?

I have been rappin’ for about six years but I been signed to Jeezy for about a year and some change.

 How did the deal with Jeezy come about?

You know man just grindin’ and makin’ contacts. Jeezy was out in L.A. and we started freestyling in front of the promo place where he was doing his little promo work and once he heard me he told me he had to sign me and he signed me right there on the spot.

How does it feel to be signed to somebody as successful as Jeezy?

I mean it’s great but I just consider it a start. I really just consider it a goal standpoint of where I need to be. It’s great being signed to somebody who’s so big in the game because you get a lot of recognition.

The Colors mixtape is hot. What were you trying to get across with that?

It was strictly street. I really made that for my homies and me. I was just in my grimy street mode at that time.

You did that mixtape with DJ Warrior. How important is Warrior to the mixtape game in the West?

He’s real important. If he’s not the hottest, he’s one of the hottest DJ’s out here. Him and me been doin’ tapes on the strength that I’m the hottest dude in the streets out here. We just did something together to try to make history.

I feel like you put a lot into your lyrics. Do you feel like cats are slacking on their lyrics nowadays?

Yeah, I’m gonna be honest with you, I don’t feel like there many rappers out there who got lyrics anymore. I don’t feel like people take the time anymore. I really try to do my thing, I try to not make it just words, I try to go in there and get my rap on.

I think it’s a lost art. I don’t think people pay attention or care about it as much as they should. Rapping is supposed to be a talent and an art.

The West Coast isn’t producing as many stars as it once was. Who do you think is hot out there and where do you stand in the big picture of where the West is going?

I mean if you come to the West, anybody talking is gonna mention my name. I mean it’s me out here. There’s a couple other cats that are getting it in. There’s only a few dudes. I mean I bring my CD’s to the stores myself, the swap meet, the mom and pops; I get my stuff all the way out there. We bringin' it back, my boy G Malone doin' his thing. Bishop Lamont is doin’ his thing.

What about Game?

You don’t even gotta mention him. You knew him without me saying his name. You don’t need to mention game. You don’t need to mention Snoop. Those names are already household names.

I’m talking about dudes that are trying to make a name for themselves, he already has a name for himself.The cats I mentioned, we're still trying. The Game is a pioneer. You know him whether I mention him or not.

Now you’re real cool with Spider Loc from G-Unit right?

That’s my guy right there. We have a couple joints together. We from the same streets so we already got that in common. He’s cool and I’m cool and us bein' solid dudes, we make good music, even though he's with G-Unit and I'm with CTE. We get in the booth and do it.

A lot of talent is coming out of Carson. It’s becoming like what Bed-Stuy is to Brooklyn for Cali. I’m not from there but is that the case?

There’s a lot of talent is Carson. I'm outta Carson, Ras Kass is outta Carson. I’m finna put that on the map right now, I'm the Mayor of Carson. You cant walk down the street here and don’t nobody know who I am. My focus is the people, if you don’t have them its crazy. I do my thing outta town as well but I got my people here. We got talent.

Can the West Coast ever go back to its glory days?

 Oh yeah, it’s about that time. Every place in the music game has their time. Now it’s the South, the West had its time, the East has their time, now it’s our time and then it’ll go back to the South. It’s the same rotation and you gotta make your turn count when it comes around, you gotta make that basket.

When can we expect an album?

Well right now what’s really poppin’ is my street album, Corporate America. I been in the lab man, getting these tracks, grindin’. Some beats sound like they should be on the album. We got so many hot joints it’s real hard to decide what goes where. The DVD is coming out. This street album is just gonna be crazy.

Sixshot.Com: Who are some of your biggest influences?

Tupac man. Everyting that dude did, his songs, what he did on stage was all correct. His work ethic was incredible. No rapper has ever worked as hard as him. He’s been dead and he’s still putting out albums. That is amazing.

Ten years ago I was 14 and I’m buying Tupac albums now.I want my work ethic to be harder than his and I want my songs to be greater than his and that’s a big shoe to fill but that’s what I base my work ethic on. He was incredible. And the Commons', and Jay-Z, Nas, Dre, Ice Cube.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

 Man, in five years I could be running Universal or Interscope. We got big goals over here. We got a label, Get Ya Green Up; we got a lot going on so we just wanna strive to do more. The sky is not the limit; I'm trying to go into outer space.

In 5 years you’re looking at a few multi platinum albums, a few movies under our belt, some companies. I can’t stop man. That’s all I know is work, work, work, work work.

You want to say anything to the fans?

Without the fans there is nothing, I’m telling them, without their support we’re nothing. I tell anybody who wants to get into this rap game you can't have haters around you. You can’t have people that aren’t motivational. Whether you get there or not, you gotta try.

Be you, don’t let anybody change you. Bootleg me, download me, Myspace me, Youtube me. I love the fans man. Without them we cant exist. I want to try and hit yall up but if I don’t get to I'm sayin' it now, ya'll are everything.
